Big Idea: Jesus is God

Verse: John 14:9

Jesus answered: Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Initial Thoughts: Francis will be teaching on the Deity of Christ. We cannot get into all the abstract details about "Christ is God, but is also the Son" – the children cannot think abstractly like that (shoot, I have a hard time wrapping my mind around that one!). But for today’s lesson we can let the children know that Jesus is God. Other verses that can be used are John 8:58 (The “I AM” statement and how that ties back into Moses’ story), we can also tie in the whole story of Thomas in John 14 again as well…we talked about this a few weeks earlier.

one thought i had was using the illustration of a father. a father has a name (i.e. Chuck) but i am also Karis' dad. I have two roles. God is God. but physically he is Jesus. just an idea...

We can bring out that just like a husband and a wife have differant roles within a family that doesn't make one any more or less human than the other. they are equally human with differant roles like Jesus is equal with the Father as God but they have differant roles.
