June 17th - 18th

Big Idea: Jesus is God

Verse: John 14:9

Jesus answered: Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?

Initial Thoughts: Francis will be teaching on the Deity of Christ. We cannot get into all the abstract details about "Christ is God, but is also the Son" – the children cannot think abstractly like that (shoot, I have a hard time wrapping my mind around that one!). But for today’s lesson we can let the children know that Jesus is God. Other verses that can be used are John 8:58 (The “I AM” statement and how that ties back into Moses’ story), we can also tie in the whole story of Thomas in John 14 again as well…we talked about this a few weeks earlier.

June 10th - 11th

Big Idea: God loves the Church (Christians)

Verse: 1 John 4:19 "We love because he first loved us."

Initial Thoughts: Doug will be speaking on the Church. His focus is on how much God loves the church (people).

Discussion Questions: possibly have the children walk through 1Corinthians 1:2; Ephesians 1:7…

June 3rd - 4th

Big Idea: Christ is the center of everything

Verse: Colossians 1:16

For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him.

Initial thoughts: Francis is giving an introduction to the book of Colossians. He will be giving an overview of the book and then focusing on the “centrality of Christ.” Life is about Christ. Everything was created for him.
